Earth Salt Dough Handprint

Materials:

  • 1½ cup flour
  • 1½ cup salt
  • ¾ cup water
  • Measuring cups
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula for mixing
  • Rolling pin
  • Circle shape for cutting out a circle shape – We used a mixing bowl.
  • Green paint
  • Blue paint
  • Paintbrush
  • String
  • Straw

Directions:

  1. Mix the flour, salt and water in a mixing bowl.
  2. Roll out the salt dough to about 1 cm thickness.
  3. Cut out a circle shape using a cookie cutter, bowl, etc.  Make sure the circle shape is large enough for your child’s handprint to fit.
  4. Press a handprint in the dough and use a straw to make a hole for string.
  5. Bake at 200 for 3 hours.
  6. After it has cooled, paint with green and blue paint like the Earth.

Earth Sun Catcher

Materials:

Directions:

  1. Cut a circle out of black circle making a circle frame.  For ours, we cut the outer circle to be 11 inches in diameter and the inner circle to be 10 inches in diameter.
  2. Cut a circle out of contact paper that it slightly larger than the inner circle of the frame.  For ours, we cut the contact paper to be 10.5 inches in diameter.
  3. Peel the contact paper backing off and stick to the circle frame.  If you are not doing the project immediately, then you can put the contact paper backing onto the contact paper to keep it sticky.
  4. Cut blue and green cellophane into squares and different shapes.
  5. Stick the cellophane onto the contact paper covering it completely.
  6. Hang in a window to enjoy!

Bee Puppet

Materials:

  • Small circle cut out of yellow cardstock
  • Medium circle cut out of yellow cardstock
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue stick or school glue
  • Black marker, colored pencil or crayon
  • Black pipecleaner
  • Popsicle stick
  • Hot glue gun

Instructions:

  1. Trace a small circle and a medium circle on a piece of yellow cardstock.  Cut the circles out.
  2. Glue the small circle to the front of the medium circle.
  3. Draw stripes on your bee body and a mouth on your bee face.
  4. Glue googly eyes onto your bee face.
  5. Have an adult use a hot glue gun to glue antenna onto the head using pipe cleaners and attach the popsicle stick to the back.

Rainbow Straw Necklace

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. Cut the yarn into about 18 inch segments.  Put a piece of tape on the end.  The tape will help prevent the straws from falling off the end.
  2. Cut the straws into smaller segments.  We cut them into about 1 1/2 inch segments.
  3. String the straw pieces onto the yarn.
  4. When finished stringing, tie the two ends of the yarn together.

Fairy Pixie Dust

Materials:

Instructions:

  1. Add all dry ingredients to a large bowl and whisk together.
  2. Slowly add coconut oil and essential oil (optional) to the dry mixture, whisking immediately.
  3. Separate the mixture into 4 bowls.
  4. Add food coloring to each bowl and mix well.
  5. Layer each color in an airtight container, gently pressing the fizzy bath salts down to make a level surface for the next layer.
  6. Decorate a label and add to the jar.

Fizzing Heart Art

Materials:

  • Heart cut outs from watercolor paper
  • Pan for containing the mess (a 9×13 baking pan works or a disposable pan)
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Food coloring
  • Pipettes
  • Cups for holding vinegar (We used juice glasses.)

Instructions:

  1. Mix ¼ cup of vinegar and food coloring and put into cups.
  2. Set up: watercolor heart cut out in pan, cup of baking soda, cup of vinegar and a pipette.
  3. Sprinkle baking soda over the watercolor heart cut out.
  4. Use a pipette to squirt vinegar and food coloring over the heart.  Younger kids can use a spoon to drip vinegar over the heart.
  5. After the kids are done with the project, tip off the excess paint and allow them to dry.
